Exodus and the Wilderness

The Exodus

1446 BC (approx.)

The ten plagues and the miracle at the Red Sea deliver Israel from Egypt.

Historical background

After 430 years in Egypt, God raised up Moses, subdued Pharaoh through ten plagues, and led Israel out. Passover and the crossing of the Red Sea became enduring patterns of salvation in the Old Testament. Traditional chronology dates the Exodus to about 1446 BC; later-date theories place it around 1290–1250 BC.
