167~164 BCJewish resistance rises against Antiochus IV's desecration of the temple.
Historical background
The Seleucid king Antiochus IV installed a pagan altar in the temple and persecuted Jewish worship. The priest Mattathias and his son Judas Maccabeus led a revolt and rededicated the temple in 164 BC. Hanukkah commemorates that rededication.
